Charter Flights Even though charter flights are usually sold to tour group operators as a part of a package vacation, you can just purchase the airline tickets separately. Because charter companies operate flights less often than the airlines' regular schedule, usually booking to fill the capacity during high season, their rates are very competitive. Charter flights can be a real good bargain especially for leisure travelers who want to fly first class but are not able to afford premium fares on regularly scheduled flights. Charter operators usually do not advertise their fares directly to the public, so you may need to ask travel agency about charter fares. There are some disadvantages and risks flying on charter flights. Seats are usually over-crowded and the flight may be scheduled at
inconvenient time. If you have changes in your itinerary (either by yourself or
by the charter operator), you will find it difficult to change your flight
schedule. You may have harder
time getting a refund if something goes wrong (Remember your contract is with charter operator or travel agent
and not with airlines). There is no frequent flier
credit either. In short, charters can be a good bargain but it has it's own
disadvantages and risks. |
